Couponing and saving money.

Today was my CVS haul.  No photo, unfortunately, but I did pick up quite a few items. (I post this for my own purposes, to keep track of what I purchase at CVS)

What did I get?

  • (2) bottles of Nexxus Conditioner

  • (1) Mitchum Deodorant

  • Cover Girl Powder and Bronzer

  • (2) boxes of Cheerios

  • (3) boxes of Kleenex

  • (3) bags of Easter Candy (thinking ahead….)

  • (2) Sunkist Orange sodas (for my Mom’s future visit! :)!)

  • (6) bars of Irish Spring Soap

  • (1) Irish Spring Body Wash

  • (2) Shower Gel scrubbies

  • (3) bottles of Excedrin and Excedrin Migraine

  • (1) Clinical Secret Deodorant

Once again I used manufacturer’s coupons, CVS coupons and ECB’s.  Total retail value $134.03  I paid $17.97, and have $8.00 ECBs for next week.  To put this into perspective, I usually spend $20.00 for Nexxus conditioner alone.

I also went to Giant supermarket and took advantage of their frozen specials.  I got the following for $13.20:

  • (2) 1/2 gallons of Turkey Hill all natural vanilla ice cream

  • (3) packages of Dole frozen fruit (blueberries, strawberries, & strawberry and bananas)

  • (1) package of Ore Ida french fries

  • (3) bags of Birds Eye frozen veggies

  • (2) Arm & Hammer Laundry detergents

They were having a Spend $20 and get back $10, so I took advantage.  I also had a $1.50/2 coupon off of the Arm & Hammer, and they were on sale for $1.99.  $1.24 for a bottle of laundry detergent is pretty good.

I am almost out of cash in my wallet, but the grocery shopping is done and the gas tank is full.  I won’t be filling my wallet up again until Friday, so I’ll have to be done for now. :)!

How about you? Have you found any good deals out there?

  1. Hi Sharon, glad you are back! I was thinking about your comments vis a vis using cash. You said that it worked better than any of the other “savings” ideas that you had tried such as no spend days, low spend days, etc. etc. I think that saving money is alot like going on a diet, a money diet. Different diets work for different people! But the trick is to find something that works all year long and not something “extreme”. I never understood the no spend days, since if you just don’t spend on a day or two, the spending just spills over to the other days. You are not really saving, just spending more on certain days and nothing on others. The cash idea is great because it is a way of life, good for 365 days a year! Great news about your daughter and her family. As we get older, we realize that having family close is one of the most important things in life. Have a great week.

    • Yes, I agree. No spends are good in that you get out of the habit of going in and out of stores, and it does slow down the spending, however, using cash is a 365 day a year thing and works even better! :)!
